WCET Education

Enterostomal Therapy Nurses play a significant part in improving the quality of life of patients.

The WCET aspires to ensuring that specialised Enterostomal Therapy nursing care is available world-wide for people with ostomy, wound or continence needs.

This is such an important aim of the WCET that it is the basis of the WCET Mission, Vision and Values statements.

The World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET) supports two models of educational programs:

Enterostomal Therapy Nursing Education Program (ETNEP) and Recognised Education Program (REP)

To ensure that educational programs worldwide respect an essential basic content, the WCET Education Committee has developed guidelines to support established, newly initiated and proposed educational programs. Based on these guidelines, criteria for WCET recognition of all ETNEP's and REP's have been developed. The process requires up to two months to complete.

The following documents are available:

Guidelines to develop an ETNEP or REP

Program Content Checklist with explanatory notes

Upon completion of an ETNEP or REP curriculum, Program Directors are encouraged to apply for WCET recognition by submitting a WCET ETNEP/REP application form.

Graduates completing a WCET recognised ETNEP or REP will receive a WCET recognition certificate.

In addition to providing an official recognition status to educational programs, the WCET recognition guarantees the students that these programs follow the basic required guidelines.

The Norma N Gill Foundation (NNG) supports the WCET recognition program. Courses which satisfy the requirements of WCET recognition are also open to NNGF Scholarship applications.
